Chris's Transformation at a Glance
✅ 4 jobs closed
✅ $6,000-$8,000 in new revenue
✅ Only $800 in ad spend
✅ Pending appointments still on the calendar
✅ Website leads starting to come in organically
✅ A plan to stay on year-round and keep scaling
When Chris first reached out to us, he was running a small excavation and land clearing operation – a two-person crew doing less than $200,000 a year in total revenue. He was doing everything: machine work, side jobs, truck repairs, you name it. The goal was simple – stop doing “all the other crap” with his time and go all-in on the machine work where the real revenue lives.
So we got to work.

4 Jobs Closed in Week One
Within the first week and a half of launching his campaign, Chris had already closed four jobs. Let that sink in for a second – four signed deals in his first week, and he hadn’t even completed the work yet.
Two of those quotes came in around $1,400 each (essentially a full day of excavator work), with others landing between $1,200 on the low side and $2,000 on the high side. Plus a mulching job worth a couple thousand more.
That’s somewhere between $6,000 and $8,000 in revenue from his first week alone – and he still had four more pending appointments he hadn’t even gotten to yet.
To put that in perspective: Chris told us his entire previous year topped out somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000. At the pace we set him on, he was on track to hit a random month’s revenue in his first week.
"You Could Almost Fail and Still Not Lose Money"
Here’s the thing Chris said that stuck with me – and it’s something I want every contractor reading this to hear:
“With as many clients as you’re sending me, you could almost be a direct screw-up and still not fail. I mean, surely one out of ten you could get – even if you’re a terrible introvert who’s never sold anything.”
He’s not wrong. At the time of our call, we had spent only $800 in ad spend – about a third of his monthly budget. And he had already closed enough work to cover his entire first month’s investment with us.
Even at a 10% close rate, the math works. That’s the whole point of the system – we send enough volume that you’d have to actively try to lose money.
The Snowball Effect
What most contractors don’t think about when they start with us is the compounding effect. Chris was already seeing it:
• Website leads started coming in – people were Googling his business after seeing the ads, landing on his website, and calling directly
• Referral potential – every job he closes leads to word-of-mouth. One relationship with a real estate developer could mean a lifetime of work
• More reviews = more trust = more organic leads – it all builds on itself
We told Chris straight up: once you start building a name for yourself and stacking reviews, you’re going to see this thing snowball. The ads are the spark – but the fire feeds itself over time.
The Bigger Opportunity Most Contractors Miss
During our conversation, Chris mentioned something that a lot of contractors in his position overlook. He was running appointments for smaller excavation jobs – and those homeowners were hiring him on the spot before he even sent a quote.
Meanwhile, the bigger opportunities – the 40 and 50-acre jobs – those prospects were saying things like, “We’ll be ready in about a month” or “We’re waiting on financing.”
Here’s what I told him: time is the killer of all deals.
When someone tells you they need to wait, that’s not a “no” – it’s an objection. And the way you handle it determines whether you close a $2,000 job or a $20,000 job.
The fix? Lock in a small deposit. Three to five hundred dollars. Nothing crazy – just enough to get the commitment. Block off your schedule, show them you’re serious, and when they’re ready, you get started.
Chris had his own approach – he wouldn’t take a deposit until he’d been on-site for the first day. That builds trust, and for his market, it worked. The point is: find what works for you, but don’t let big opportunities slip through because you didn’t ask for the commitment.
From Side Jobs to Full-Time Machine Work
The biggest shift for Chris wasn’t just the revenue – it was the type of work he was doing. Before working with us, he was splitting his time between machine work and everything else. The goal of this whole partnership was simple: stop doing the low-value stuff and invest all of his time into the excavator and mulching work where the margins are real.
Within the first two weeks, that shift was already happening. He was running appointments daily, filling his calendar with machine work, and starting to see the personnel challenges that come with growth (a good problem to have).
Our advice? If you get to a point where you physically can’t run all the estimates and do the work – raise your prices. Fewer jobs, higher margins, bigger bang for your buck. You’re not there to be the cheapest option. You’re there to be the best.
The Bottom Line
Chris came in as a small operation doing under $200K a year. Within his first week with Dirt2Dollars:
His words, not ours: “It’s pretty hard to lose money with you guys.”
And he’s right. When the system is built to send you more opportunities than you can handle, the only variable left is you. Show up, close the work, and do a great job. We’ll handle everything else – the website, the ads, the marketing, the automations, all the annoying stuff you don’t want to do.
That’s what Dirt2Dollars is built for.
